Storage galore

Last post may 6th eh… Hmm. Let’s blast out some posts.

Via Fabian, a nice 4-2.5"-disks-in-5.25"-form-factor storage backplane . Funky. I guess 2.5" disks are still slower and more expensive than "regular" 3.5" ones, but this is a nice start 😉

I thought the same thing. Fact is, the smaller disks are faster. It is the same technology, and making it smaller to fit into a 2.5" casing isn’t a big problem for the manufacturers, but the heads have to move shorter distances, resulting in "faster" seek times.

I’ve seen it on a graph somewhere, but I can’t find it right now. The read times of continues blocks were the same, but reading random data was slightly faster.
