Since just before 12 or so, power problems occured at the NIKHEF datacenter in Amsterdam. Funny enough, they’re still not resolved. In the meanwhile, many internet providers using AMS-IX for traffic offload and peering are getting into trouble, as the NIKHEF part of AMS-IX is also down, so about 60Gbit of traffic has to go over other IX’es and transit, and it’s getting tight. Funny what one power outage can do 😉

(In related news, my Phyxia connection between bebru1 and nlams1 went dead because it passed through equipment located at NIKHEF 🙁 )

Apparently last month the root servers were attacked. ICANN published a fact sheet about the attacks and root server attacks. Interesting reading.

Digital Audio Access Protocol

Installed Firefly Media Server on my home fileserver for fun (unfortunately not for profit 😉 ), and installed iTunes on my desktop. Never used it, but hey, it supports DAAP and that’s the big deal, right? 🙂 I have 22K+ songs in my iTunes player now, advertised via mDns multicast "modern" stuff. Yay!

Tried to use it in Amarok on my laptop as well, but no dice. If I add the machine manually, I can browse the files via DAAP, but the actual discovery doesn’t seem to work. I installed the avahi daemon which takes care of mDNS discovery, but it still doesn’t want to find it.. 🙁 Any tips?
