Additional Bluetooth Drivers for Microsoft Bluetooth in Windows XP SP2

I was looking for drivers for one of my bluetooth sticks, lost the cd years and years ago, but finally got my usb ports in order on my new workstation, and wanted bluetooth. Apparently nothing wanted to support it, and all webpages seemed to indicate I should be using Microsoft’s XP SP2 stack… alas, no driver. Until I found this:

Additional Bluetooth Drivers for Microsoft Bluetooth in Windows XP SP2.

I just installed the MSI they offered for download, and everything started to work. Note for Google: Vendor ID 1131 Part ID 1001 (Vid_1131&Pid_1001) was my bluetooth stick and it’s working with this MSI installed.

NVidia accelerates Linux Video

I read on IRC today (#mythtv-users) NVidia has just released support for VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix), aka support for their "PureVideo HD" feature in recent chipsets, decoding h.264, VC-1, MPEG2, and MPEG-1 in hardware. A great jump forward for people wanting to play HD video without getting the latest and greatest 3GHz+ dual-core CPU’s.

More in the MythTV users list archives.

A pity that you of course still need their binary driver, but they released a whole bunch of docs, header files and patches for a bunch of programs such as ffmpeg and mplayer.

Firefox 3’s retarded SSL handling

I switched to FF3 a while ago but quickly got fed up with the "friendly" and "secure" SSL certificate handling (for incorrect ones). Set the following in about:config and be happy:

  • browser.xul.error_pages.expert_bad_cert = true
  • browser.ssl_override_behavior = 2

This adds the "add exception" button to the info page and preloads the certificate already so you can just click add.

Why call all cool stuff "punk" then call your new car "Jazz" ? I’ll never understand advertisers.

Power or the lack thereof

Following the cascade of power failures in Dutch Datacenters SARA and Nikhef, AMS-IX made some interesting changes to their Colocation POP Pages (hilighted in blue). It’d be funny if it wasn’t so very true 😉

World’s slowest cashier

Seems I have fans reading this blog at Makro, as when we were there last saturday it took ages until I received something else to put back in the cart… Sigh, can’t have it all I guess 😉

Is there some sort of award for this? Yesterday at the store the woman scanned as if her life depended on it, I was just waiting for her to throw a glass jar on the floor (as she was scanning faster than I was prepared to put the stuff back into the shopping cart). I usually try to keep up or even be faster which usually works, but if it’s so hopeless and customer-unfriendly I just slow down to grandma-speed. Pity nothing broke as I would have enjoyed to go and get another one at grandma-speed (10min would not be enough) and in case of trouble getting the manager involved.

I guess "orders" are to do this as fast as possible for better turnaround but when you’re just shoving/throwing things back into the customer’s cart I think it’s time for vacation.
